A quick question, if I may. FYI, I’m a happy Chamonix 11×14
owner looking for some further rock-solid stability.
Is the A100 and A250 combo (in your experience) strong enough for
11×14 (studio but also some outdoors), or should one prefer the “-2”
option (as recommended for ULF on your products page)?
Answer by Spencer at Ries:
The Chamonix Cameras are quite a bit lighter than the older 11X14 cameras. I have a lot of photographers that have the Chamonix 11X14 that use the A100 with the A250 in the field and really like how they perform.
That said, The A100-2 with the A250-2 are heavier. The tripod has larger wood outers. The clamps are larger and more robust. The question is do you want the extra weight?
As a point of reference please go to our Homepage scroll down until you see the black and white photo, cica 1970, of Michael Smith standing with his cameras and tripods or see the attached photo below. Those are all ULF Cameras and the three cameras on the right are all on A100 Tripods with A250 Heads (The earlier versions were slightly smaller). The camera on the far left is actually on a J100 Tripod with a J250 Head, and not recommended.
If it were me with the Chamonix 11X14 and have no plans to go any larger. I would go with the A100 and A250. I think you will be more happy with its portability and performance.
