How to pick your Tripod and Head?
There are many different formats in film and digital cameras. Here is some guidance to these formats.
What is your Format?

Medium Format – Medium format has traditionally referred to a film format in still photography and the related cameras and equipment that use film. Nowadays, the term applies to film and digital cameras that record images on media larger than 24 mm × 36 mm (0.94 in × 1.42 in) (full-frame) (used in 35 mm (1.4 in) photography), but smaller than 4 in × 5 in (100 mm × 130 mm) (which is considered to be large format photography).

Panoramic Format – panoramic or “banquet” formats (such as 4×10 and 8×20 inches). Though this format can include medium format films and large format films it requires much more stability, as you would find in a large format.

Ries Wooden Tripods
Wood tripods are specifically used to dampen noise and vibrations that effect the dynamic performance during film exposure. Our tripods are specifically made from “tone woods” or AKA; “tonewoods”, (look it up). The king of all tonewoods is Eastern Hard Rock Maple for tripods. It is hard, light weight, strong and has the best vibration damping qualities of any material available.
